Can't connect to site 18 Years, 2 Months ago
Hi,

I want to use a Telnet program to connect to my website as I heard it is much faster to upload etc.

Someone gave me a link to this site to download. I am trying to connect to my site but I keep having issues.

I tried both ssh and telnet. Here is what happens:

1. Under Connection I choose SSH2
2. Under Host Name I just type www.mysite.com on port 22.
3. I click OK and go to the window in the background.
4. I click on the connect lightning bolt.
5. Type in my user and password for my ftp. and click enter.
6. It connects for about half a second the then says disconnected in the bottom of the screen.

When I try Telnet that comes with windows and connect to my site the whole screen just disapears and doesn't come back.

Any idea what is causing this? I tried some other telnet software today and the screen just disapears.

Thanks for any help,
Nick

If you're getting the same behavior with several clients, I would suspect that your web server does not have telnet or SSH enabled. In fact, most web hosting providers do not allow shell level access.

If you can confirm that your server does allow it, get back to me and we'll talk about configuration. SSH may work, but telnet almost certainly will not.

Thanks, I have a virtual dedicated server with GoDaddy. I will check into that.

Perhaps there is a setting in Plesk I can turn on or off :-)
