TOPIC: Feature Request: Command Line Parameters
#2242
Feature Request: Command Line Parameters 15 Years ago
I'd like to put in a request for the ability to specify connection parameters via the command-line.

I'm in charge of a team that manages a ton of different servers scattered over a very large area. I have developed a piece of software that manages the list of servers and makes it easy to locate the one I need, and I have already integrated the ability to connect to the hosts using AbsoluteTelnet with SSH:// URLs directly within my application. But there doesn't seem to be a way to specify the RSA authentication file to AbsoluteTelnet when connecting to a host, so we still need to manually select the appropriate file to log in. For a few connections here and there it wouldn't be so bad, but it gets tedious doing it over and over again. And there are too many servers, and they change too quickly, to try to maintain and distribute .TNT files for each one.

Ideally what I'd like to see is a way to pass in parameters for a connection on the command line: host name, port number, username/password or RSA ID file, terminal type, compression level, etc.

Would you consider adding support for command line parameters in a future version of AbsoluteTelnet?

I love the product, by the way, and have purchased multiple licenses for myself and for everyone on my team.

Thanks!

I'd like to chime in supporting this request. It would be nice to be able to start a session and tell it which keymap file to use, like when you have variations of the vt100 for different machines (vi maps, emacs maps, whatever). Or perhaps an addition to the vt options tab to allow designation of a specifc keymap file to load...

I'll consider it. The more people you can get to chime in the better.
