TOPIC: Pass-through printing and Page Setup

Pass-through printing and Page Setup 16 Years, 10 Months ago
I am experimenting with pass-through printing using the VT100 emulation mode (AbsoluteTelnet version 5.35).
Should the "File / Page Setup..." function have an effect on pass-through printing? I tried selecting a printer other than my default printer in "Page Setup...", but my pass-through printouts continue to print on my default printer.

The File->page-setup is only for prints done using File->print command. The options that affect passthru printing are on the Options->Properties->VToptions page. You can choose to print to the default printer or to be prompted for the printer each time.

Brian:

Thank you for the response.

One more question: What I was actually trying to do was select Landscape orientation for my pass-through printouts. So I changed the VT Option to allow me to select my printer each time, so now I get the "Print" dialog each time; however, if I also select Landscape orientation after selecting the printer, the output is still in the (default) Portrait orientation.

Is what I'm trying to do possible?

When doing passthrough printing, the print dialog is only used to choose the printer. The best choice for you would be to use 'direct to printer' mode of passthrough and have your host program send the proper escape sequences to change the orientation.

This is the 'passthru' nature of passthru printing. The option is designed to let the host have direct access to the printer. The downside is that the host must have some knowledge of what type of printer is on the other end to know what escape sequences must be sent.
