Get no or garbled (<F2>, etc.) when entering number from numberic keypad in input mode ':' with vim on Redhat Linux 7.3

':' is command mode, not input. entering to go to a line number

By default, the keypad works in a very specific way for terminal applications. If you're getting escape sequences out of the keypad, it's likely set in 'application' mode which is probably not what you want.
To force a PC style keypad where you are either in numeric mode or extended mode (arrows, home, end, insert, del), you must go to Options->Properties->VT Options and switch off 'VT Keypad'
