Direct to Com: No Ports Listed 21 Years, 4 Months ago

I am running Absolute Telnet 2.0 on Windows 2000 Pro. When I access Call Properties/Connection/Direct to Com, there are no Com Ports listed under "Ports". Furthermore, "Configure Port" does nothing. Is it possible that the software is making an improper call to the serial port?
All I want to do is to connect to a mainframe with VT220 emulation over COM1..

I'd like to add that I was able to get a logon prompt with Hyperterminal set @ COM1. Unfortunately, Hyperterm doesn't provide VT220 terminal emulation.
So, there appears to be no problem with my serial port.
