right now, that tab is flashing because it doesn't have focus. if i click on it, it stops flashing, just now i hit ENTER several times, then switched to another tab, and the flashing continues. i can generate a log but i need to figure out a consistent way to duplicate it, and right now i can't even get it to stop flashing. :(

Generally, that means that a 'bell' sound (control g) has been issued on a tab that's not the selected tab. You hear 'bells' all the time in the terminal, you may not have noticed. For example, if you backspace everything in your shell prompt and keep hitting backspaces, you'll get hear a BELL that says 'stop hitting backspace, I can't back up any more', etc...

Servers can use that in any number of ways to get your attention.... But what happens when you have a dozen tabs open and your hear a BELL??? How can you tell which tab it came from? Enter the flashing yellow triangle... A BELL happened here. There may be something on the screen you need to see.

Now... What I can't do is tell you why the server sent you the bell. That's very server and application specific. Ideally it would accompany some kind of text on the screen that would explain.

If it happens often, you could try trapping a debug log for me to take a look at, and maybe we figure out why....

File->OpenLog on a tab that may BELL

Tab away.

File->CloseLog after you see the yellow triangle

zip the logfile and email it to me

Perhaps that will yield some insights.

Sure.

They're similar but not exactly the same. 'Goto Link' works with things already identified by AbsoluteTelnet/SSH as URLS or links. 'Go to URL' works with ANY SELECTED text, whether Absolute identifies it as a link or not.

For example, when URL highlighting is enabled (Options->Properties->Appearance), Absolute will try to identify links in the terminal text. And if it does, the text will be highlighted. The mouse cursor turns into a hand when you hover over and you can just click them and they open in your default browser. Easy. No selection required. And if you right click, you'll see the extra menu items for copy link and goto link. 'Go To URL' in this scenario is greyed out because (like copy) it operates on the current text selection and no text is 'selected'.

30
31

With URL highlighting turned OFF, there is no highlighting. No hand cursor when you hover, and no 'link' options in the menu. It's just text on the screen. And still no 'Go To URL' because (like copy) you haven't selected anything yet.

34

Now, you could copy and paste the URL into your browser... Highlight/select the desired text, copy, go to your browser and paste, etc..... 'Go To URL' is a shortcut for just that. There's not even a check to see if its a valid link. It works on the currently selected text and opens it in your default browser. It presumes you know what you're doing.

37

I could think of some options for unifying that. Or maybe hide the 'Go To URL' when 'Goto Link' is visible.

Thoughts?

Does that clear it up?

You're in luck! I've been working on some updates in version 13.16 that improve Unicode handling and display considerably. The latest improvements update Unicode handling to Unicode 17, Including new Unicode characters and lookup tables, emoji, surrogate pairs, emoji modifiers, zero width joiners, among other things...

13.16 is still in beta, but you can try it here. Should be 'official' in a few days. I'd lover another pair of eyes on it when you get a chance:
