The new version eventually causes the cursor to go to an hour glass. There is no apparent increase in CPU activity or any pending operation that I can see. New sessions that are opened are OK for a while (I do not know how long yet), but after a while every session causes the cursor to go to the hour glass. This behavior is consistent on both Win2k and WinXP.
