| Re: Install options | 0 Relevance | 17 years ago | bpence | AbsoluteTelnet General | |
| There are ways to control the features available to a user on a number of different levels. All of them require you to be able to deploy additional registry settings to the users system at the same time you deploy the software. One of the most requested feature controls is the ability to disable the 'remember password' feature. There are a number of others as well. Send me an email with this request and I'll send you the documentation on how to do this. Regards, Brian | |||||

| There is a way to do it, but it is not an option in the UI of the application (lest someone turn it back off) It is assumed you are doing that for security purposes and that you have some access to the registry of the machine in question. To do this, you have to add a string to either HKEY_CURRENT_USER\\Software\\Celestial Software\\AbsoluteTelnet or HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\SOFTWARE\\Celestial Software\\AbsoluteTelnet depending on whether you want to affect a single user or everyone on the box. The name of the string should be 'disable_save_password' ... | |||||
| Re: Where are settings stored? | 0 Relevance | 19 years ago | bpence | AbsoluteTelnet General | |
| Most connection specific information is stored in your .tnt connection files. Just copy these files to the new system and that should give you a fresh start. There are some options, specifically on the 'Global' tab of the Options->Properties dialog that are stored in the registry and are not easily copied to the new system. You could, however, export that part of the registry and import to the new system, but that would not be recommended for most users. If you're interested though, try exporting the following branch of your registry: HKEY_CURRENT_USER ... | |||||

| Update on my efforts to get Absolute 2.12 working again -- Nope, didn't work. Just like others are reporting, after reinstall it worked fine -- for a little while. After that the registry error reoccurred. Please, could a license for version 3.X be issued to all the people on this list who paid for 2.X but can't use it anymore? -Ben Wheeler | |||||

| I'm not sure when the problem started for me, but November 2005 sounds right. I'm using version 2.12. Interestingly, I just installed my original downloaded version on a new laptop, and it worked fine the first time I used the program. But the second time, the registry error occurred. I run windows update, so I've installed various stuff from Microsoft recently. I probably was not running Absolute when it installed. I'm running Win XP Professional version 2002 SP 2. I tried to do the register-under-my-old-email-address fix, but it told me: "Someone e ... | |||||

I used a commercial registry analysis tool to check the registry. To do this, I totally removed all parts of Absolute T, cleaned out any further registry entries for it. Ran the scanner with positive results. Re-installed AT, re-ran the scan, and was , as others have noted, able to launch 1 session. After attempting to launch again, the error returned. Subsiquent checking of the registry detected NO changes or corru ... | |||||

| I have the same problem: Yesterday I could work with the software (I think it was version 2.13), but when I tried to open a new window I suddenly got the registry-missing message. Now it don`t likes to work anymore. I have bought the license in October 2001 - so my license doesn't work with version 3... Also version 3 is not able to handle my key with passphrase (this worked in version 2 and seems to be fixed in 3.11) So I think I have two possibilites: Update to version 4 for about 19.95 (how long will this version work?) or use another software 🙁 ... | |||||

| Starting this morning I have the same problem, with version 2.13. I didn't install any software or service packs on this system lately (Windows XP SP 2). After uninstall and install I was able to use the program one time, although it gave some error messages about the license. But after that the program no longer starts, only the errormessage about the registry is displayed. Next I installed version 3.80 that I am using on another system, and that version seems to work without problems. | |||||

| ... the message you get for SSH1. The message for ssh2 is a little different. The reason this is important is that SSH1 and SSH2 use slightly different mechanisms to store the key. SSH1, for example, stores the key in a file called 'ssh_known_hosts' in your 'application data\\AbsoluteTelnet' folder. SSH2 stores the key in the registry under 'HKEY_CURRENT_USER\\Software\\Celestial Software\\AbsoluteTelnet'. So, a few things that might affect storing of the keys: 1. First, since SSH1 and SSH2 store different keys in different places, you could still get ... | |||||

| ... Of course, then the keymap is only in the one .tnt file, while direct edits of the keymap files will be available to ALL sessions. As for global options, file locations, default color schemes, etc... These things are stored in the registry and are normally *NOT* removed when you install a new version. The exception to this rule is the install for version 3.63. 3.63 uses a new installer (Inno Setup) and must remove the version put in by the old installer (InstallShield) before it can continue. The InstallShield uninstall will remove the user-specific ... | |||||
| Re: AT 3.13 : Config files PATH handling | 0 Relevance | 22 years ago | bpence | Configuration issues | |
| I've got a fix for that. Version 3.15 will include the fix, but it can be retro-fitted to 3.13 with a registry tweak. you'll need to open regedit and navigate to: HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\\AbsoluteTelnetConnection\\shell\\open\\command Modify the entry by putting double-quotes around the path name and the %1 argument like this: "c:\\program files\\absolutetelnet\\PROGRAM\\AbsoluteTelnet.exe" "%1" Of course, your path my be different, depending on where you installed. Let me know if this helps! Brian | |||||

| ... to get AT to run completely off of an ini file, rather than tying itself into the registry? I'm really wanting to develop a basic set of communication tools that are all completely portable and can be used from removable media on any computer I happen to be at. I do realize that some of the shell functionality would be sacrificed, which wouldn't be so important for these purposes anyway. I'm picturing maybe something like an dual-purpose option to save all pertinent settings to an ini file, then have AT first look for the ini file in its directory upon st ... | |||||

| MUSUL, I've added URL syntax decoding for urls similar to the telnet URL syntax. Prefixes that are now recognized include "ssh1://" and "ssh2://" for ssh1 and ssh2 in addition to "ssh://" which is an alias for the ssh2 form. The full URL syntax including username, password, hostname, and port number is supported, giving you the ability to implement auto-login through SSH from a web link (assuming your registry changes have been made). Get it here: [url= /p> Enjoy!!! | |||||

| Hey dudes, The next version of the software will recognize the telnet URLs without the slashes. It's against my better judgement, but it doesn't seem to break anything. Additionally, I've added code to parse ssh:// type urls (including usernames and passwords for auto-login). However, I'll not go so far as to add the registry settings to make IE recognize them until I can do a little more research. | |||||
