| RE: Backing up Global settings stored in the registry | 15 Relevance | 2 weeks ago | bpence | Configuration issues | |
| ... dialog settings, and can be easily set in the app without exporting/importing registry. Don't forget though that all of the other settings, the ones that are connection specific are in your .TNT files, generally one file per connection target or host. So if you want to 'migrate' to another machine, make sure you take those with you | |||||
| Backing up Global settings stored in the registry | 15 Relevance | 4 weeks ago | Todd Andrews | Configuration issues | |
| This topic was inspired by the old thread [Re: Where are settings stored?]( which concludes by saying they are saved in the following registry key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\\Software\\Celestial Software\\AbsoluteTelnet I exported that key and it looks like the important pieces to backup are: "usebooleancolor"="false" "appoptions14"=hex:00,10,26,59,cd,41,b4,27,9a,0d,80,f3,66,e2,01,a5,19 "appoptions15"=hex:26,17,b9,2c "FTPDIR"="config" "AVisual"="YES" "STARTUP"="three" "AUTHFORWARD"="yes" "COD"="no" "SUTF8"="yes" I don't need to know what these control t ... | |||||
| RE: Launching AbsoluteTelnet triggers Windows Standard-Apps | 15 Relevance | 1 month ago | bpence | AbsoluteTelnet General | |
| ... 'YES' to that prompt and 'Don't ask again', which locked the answer into the registry like that. It does the same thing for default 'telnet', 'ssh', and 'sftp' For 'telnet' and 'ssh', there IS an option in the UI to turn it back off. You'll see those on Options->Properties->Global. Unfortunately, the UI option for SFTP is missing (needs to be added) so the only way in your version to change it is to modify the registry, which you've already done. If you delete the option from the registry instead of saying 'no', you'll return to the default behav ... | |||||
| Forum search result links don't seem to work the way I expect | 10 Relevance | 2 months ago | Todd Andrews | AbsoluteTelnet General | |
| Today I was interested in finding out where AT's global settings are stored. I used the single keyword 'registry' as a starting point, and on the second page of the results... I see a topic entitled, "Re: Where are settings stored?" (second topic on page). It has a URL of: I'm expecting that link on the link will take me directly to that post, unfortunately, it takes me to the first page of the latest AbsoluteTelnet General posts (screenshot attached in my next post on this topic). What should the correct URL be to the specific post so I can read it? < span style="color: #666;"> Attachment : Screenshot-12_27_2025-2_15_08-PM_ver001.png | |||||
| RE: Launching AbsoluteTelnet triggers Windows Standard-Apps | 5 Relevance | 1 month ago | Michael Steidl | AbsoluteTelnet General | |
| @bpence your response solved the issue: My registry had the DEFAULTSFTP value "yes" My thoughts: this may make Windows think AbsoluteTelnet claims to be the "App Standard" for SFTP - but I've set a different software as standard. Therefore Windows ask me which one is the right App Standard. Therefore I changed the value to "no" ... ... now launching AbsoluteTelnet does not trigger this App Standard setting for SFTP/SSH/Telnet anymore. Maybe there's a way to change that by the Options UI of AbsoluteTelnet. | |||||

| Sure. I think I can help with that, but I'll need you to check something in your registry. Can you naviage to HKEY_CURRENT_USER->Software->Celestial Software->AbsoluteTelnet and tell me if you have an entry for 'DEFAULTSFTP' and what the value is? See the attached image... < span style="color: #666;"> Attachment : 2026-01-07_11-57-45.png | |||||
| Keymap Export Location | 5 Relevance | 12 years ago | Jeff Holicky | Configuration issues | |
| I have made changes in the keymap area - and noticed that they don't get stored in the registry. I hit "export" on the screen but no idea where any file is generated. I checked my C: for all folders with AbsoluteTelnet and found nothing with today's date. I checked my user folder, the program folder (no not even under the keymap). Anybody know where? Today for the last time I got sick of accidentally hitting CTRL-\ and so I created a keymap that did does nothing (CONTROL-\) and then a new keymap using ALT-CTRL-SHIFT-\ to map to \x1c and it worked grea ... | |||||

| Try doing a full uninstall and reinstall. There are a few entries in the registry that have to be removed. Let me know if that works or not and we'll go from there. Brian | |||||
| activex | 5 Relevance | 14 years ago | Charles | Configuration issues | |
| I would like to connect to Absolute Telnet from Excel but can't find the activex control in the registry. Does it install with AT? I also would really like to see what functions etc. the api exposes. My ultimate goal is to send commands to AT from Excel inorder to automate a connection to our database and upload subscriber information from a file. Has anyone accomplished a connection from Excel to AT? | |||||
| Re:"close application on disconnect" doesn't work | 5 Relevance | 15 years ago | bpence | AbsoluteTelnet General | |
| In the tabbed interface, 'close app on disconnect' is really 'close tab on disconnect' because multiple sessions may be open. Access to these settings is not directly available via the scripting API. However, the settings are stored in the registry, so you should be able to find some VBSCRIPT examples to change them there. | RE: Re:Installation Question | 5 Relevance | 17 years ago | bpence | Configuration issues | |
| ... level. All registry settings that are normally made under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE are now made in the HKEY_CURRENT_USER branch. You probably don't even have rights to install under c:\\program files, so you'll have to do something like install in c:absolutetelnet or in your documents directory or somewhere you have permissions to write. The only caveat here is that NOBODY else will be able to see this installation except for you. If you are the only user of this PC, then you're probably OK with that. Let me know how this works for you! Enjoy! Brian | |||||
| Feature Request - Shell Keepalive | 5 Relevance | 17 years ago | Derek Small | Configuration issues | |
| ... and switches would take weeks or months, and would likely never be approved. Could you perhaps add a registry setting, or an .ini file that might support doing a shell keepalive? That way users wouldn't be able to just stumble across it in the settings panels. The ability to keep my (telnet) connections open by sending a CR every 5 mins or so, would really help me. BTW. I've been an avid user of AbsoluteTelnet for over 6 years now. It's a great product, but I'd love it if you had an upgrade option every year instead of having to repurchase it. Your cu ... | |||||

| Re: Trend Micro virus warning | 5 Relevance | 19 years ago | peridoc | AbsoluteTelnet General | |
| Brian, I just wanted to let you know that the registry setting "solved" my issue. How about this as a compromise: * An option (in the options menu) to turn on and off the update checks in this manner is added. * A manual "Check now for updates" option is added to the menu bar to manually perform a check if that option does not already exist. Are these possible in a future release? Thanks again, Keith | |||||
| RE: Unable to Open Absolute Telnet | 5 Relevance | 20 years ago | Adam H. Villa | AbsoluteTelnet General | |
| When I try to open the program I get this error: "The registry information for this application is missing or has been corrupted or altered. The application will now halt." I was going to try and download the installation app again, but couldn't get the file to download. I was using this link that you had sent me in the past: <old link removed> Is there another location where I could get the install file? Thanks! | |||||
