Hi!

I installed Absolute Telnet 9.18 yesterday to try to troubleshoot some SMTP problem via telnet. I connected to the server successfully. But I couldn't type anything. It seemed as if the keyboard was not working at all.

What's the problem here? Perhaps it's necessary to do some adjustments and change settings for the keyboard to work in Absolute Telnet?

I ended up using PuTTYtel. 🙂 I successfully used it to connect to the server and troubleshoot the SMTP problem. There was no problem using the keyboard or having to change any input or keyboard settings.

In other words, PuTTYtel did for free what Absolute Telnet could not for money. Thankfully I only got the Lite license for Absolute Telnet, so I did not pay anything.

However, I am willing to give Absolute Telnet a second chance. So what do I do to make it work?

The keyboard is a wireless Logitech MX3200. I am running Vista 64-bit with SP2.

Thanks in advance!

When connecting to SMTP with telnet, you probably need to turn on 'local echo'. While you *can* telnet to the SMTP port, you can't expect it to function like telnet server. It doesn't echo characters back for you to see, for example. This is not because the keyboard is not working, but because the server does not show the characters to you. To enable 'local echo', check out Options->Properties->VTOptions->Local Echo.
