Hello Brian, et al,

I'm on the lookout for a nice telnet proggie to settle on for all my terminal uses, and I'm really liking the direction AT seems to be going. However, I have a requirement that I'm wondering how difficult it would be to implement.

Just how feasible would it be to get AT to run completely off of an ini file, rather than tying itself into the registry? I'm really wanting to develop a basic set of communication tools that are all completely portable and can be used from removable media on any computer I happen to be at.

I do realize that some of the shell functionality would be sacrificed, which wouldn't be so important for these purposes anyway. I'm picturing maybe something like an dual-purpose option to save all pertinent settings to an ini file, then have AT first look for the ini file in its directory upon startup to determine where it would look for its setup configuration.

I don't currently own a copy of AT, but this feature would definitely make the decision for me, as its currently a pretty high priority in my decision. Or, if it was something seriously considered for a future release I (and others in my sphere of influence) would certainly support development in that direction.

It's possible to do, I suppose.... However, the install is integral to some of the features, including the 30-day trial. It might be possible to allow stand-alone execution, but it would almost certainly become a feature reserved for users with a paid license. Or, perhaps do a mini-install on any machine that the software is used on to establish the 30-day trial on that particular machine.

Something to think about.....
